This weekend’s UFC Fight Night should be an interesting contest between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez, with both men looking to remain in contention for the featherweight title.
Ortega (15-2, 1 no contest) last fought back in September, when his second golden opportunity ended with a defeat – just like his first – when the American was bested by Alexander Volkanowski.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez (13-3, 1 NC) has yet to challenge for the title, but the Mexican showed potential in November in a stunning points loss to former champion Max Holloway. The dynamic striker even said that the UFC guaranteed him a title shot if he beat Ortega this Saturday.
Jiu-jitsu specialist Ortega probably needs a few more wins if he wants to fight for the belt again, losing to Volcanowski before losing to Holloway, meaning Saturday’s main event is a crucial battle for California.
