Republicans criticized the extension of the moratorium and called on the administration to help speed up the delivery of rental aid approved by Congress. The moratorium, stemming from an executive order signed by then-President Donald Trump last August, protects tenants who haven’t paid their monthly rent from being moved out of their homes if they declare financial hardship. The moratorium was originally scheduled to end on December 31, 2020, but Congress extended it to the end of January, and the CDC extended the order three times.
