Brasilia, February 19, 2022: The United States Government, through USAID (United States Agency for International Development), today announced a donation of $520 thousand as immediate aid to help families affected by heavy rains in the city of Petropolis in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. , this Tuesday (15/02).
US Embassy and Consulate General in Brazil Douglas Knauf said: “One of the defining characteristics of the Brazil partnership is our willingness to support each other in difficult times. It is heartbreaking for all of us to see this tragedy happen in the city of Petropolis. We extend our condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims and the homeless.”
The proceeds will be used to distribute personal hygiene and cleaning and food safety kits to homeless families and will be administered by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
“USAID is involved in efforts to help families recover from the loss in the Serrana region of Rio de Janeiro, we are available to help them rebuild their lives,” said Ted Gehr, USAID director in Brazil.
