Since the previous day, the government has counted nine deaths from complications from the disease, a total of 127,926 since the start of the pandemic.
This is a significant increase in cases compared to the figures released on Tuesday, when the country reported 7,673 infections and ten deaths.
In the past 24 hours, 190,033 people received their first dose of any vaccine, bringing the total number of first-time vaccinated people to 42 million. Another 230,666 were received, in the same period, the second dose. Thus, 30,440,373 people have already been fully vaccinated.
As the UK continues its national immunization programme, Simon Stevens, director of the British Public Health Service, said that according to “Sky News”, there are 25 types of coronavirus “under surveillance”.
Susan Hopkins, director of the health agency Public Health England, detailed to the Parliamentary Committee on Science and Technology that “we now live in a world of different forms, everything we see is a variation of the original (strain).”
