Top 5 – 5 Biggest Hopes for the Australian Olympic Trials – SwimChannel

The Australian Olympic Trials in Brisbane will begin this Monday, Sunday night in Brasilia. Best Swimming highlights the five biggest hopefuls for one of the most important trials in world swimming:

5) Kaylee McCain

Billed as the world’s best swimmer in 2023, world record holder in three backstroke events, he faces three main individual events (100m and 200m backstroke, 200m medley) and adds two more to feature in Australia’s strong relays, the 100m and 200m freestyle.

4) Cameron McAvoy

Cameron McEvoy, the world’s fastest man in 2023 and 2024, is back better than ever. At 30, McEvoy, now training on his own, is the swimmer who has broken the 22-second barrier the most times in recent years. He will swim the 50m freestyle and look for a spot in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

3) Kyle Chalmers

King Kyle, who was absent from the Doha World Cup, is focused on this qualifier with a new event. The 100m freestyle is his event, or rather his sole objective, but this time he has skipped the 200m free to compete in the 100m butterfly.

2) Ariane Titmuss

The women’s 400m freestyle was the most anticipated and contested event of the Tokyo 2020 Games, now the competition has become even bigger, because in addition to the rivalry between Australia and the United States, there is also Ariane Titmus and Katie Ledecky. Canadian Summer McIntosh, the world record holder for one season, won. Titmus goes into this race looking for gold and to break her own world record.

1) Women’s 4x100m Freestyle event

No country in the world has so many swimmers below the 53-second barrier in the 100m freestyle. It has eight swimmers, seven of whom are active, making this relay practically unbeatable and one of the most anticipated events of the Selective.
