At least seven students died on Tuesday (02) after falling into an empty space inside the building of the public university Al Alto (UPEA) in Bolivia. The victims are aged between 21 and 23 years, according to information published on the Diorio da Amazonia portal.
In videos circulating on the Internet, it is possible to see students gathering in the fifth floor of the building. The railing then breaks and the students fall. Some students also created a ruckus, but were saved from falling by classmates.
The local press reported that three youths were initially killed, but at least four others did not protest the injuries.
Bolivian police said via Twitter that they are investigating the case and are regretting what happened.
“We regret the tragedy at the public university #Alto (UPEA), where many deaths and injuries occurred. Our sincere condolences to the people of El Alto and the bereaved families. We are waiting for a quick explanation of the facts ”, Bolivian President Luis Aers posted on his Twitter profile. The city of El Alto, where the tragedy occurred, is next to the capital, La Paz.
