World Skate, the unit that controls professional skateboarding in the world, announced the cancellation of the World Skate Park on Thursday. The tournament was scheduled to take place next June and would no longer be due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
The competition will award three direct slots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and count points for the ranking of the games, one of two games that will be present at the Games (the other being the “street” game, which will have its World Cup in Rome, Italy, from May 31. Between 6 June).
“Unfortunately, after changing host countries twice in the last two months and working tirelessly over the last three weeks, we should announce the cancellation of the Skate Park World Championship,” World Skate said in an official statement.
With the cancellation, the park may have just one more tournament for athletes to score points in the world rankings: Des Tour, in Des Moines, in the United States, between 17 and 23 May. Without the World Cup, it is not yet known how the Olympic venues will be, whether the top 16 will remain in the rankings, as well as a place in the host country, or if the number will expand to the top 20, with four being won at the World Cup in compensation .
Skateboarding will make its debut at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In park mode, Brazil has three skaters in the top 16, in both the male and female categories, and is a favorite to win medals in both.
