Investing.com – Australian shares were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , , and sectors dragged shares lower.

The index fell 0.33% at the close in Sydney.

The best performance of the session on the index came from shares of Zip Company Limited (ASX:), which rose 10.27%, corresponding to 0.14 points, to trade at 1.45 at the close of operations. Meanwhile, Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX:) added 9.66%, or 0.06 points, to end the day at 0.65, and Omni Bridgeway Limited (ASX:), which advanced 5.98%, or 0.06 points, to close operations at 0.98.

The worst performing stocks of the session were Deterra Royalties Ltd (ASX:), which fell 6.95% or 0.31 points, with its shares trading at 4.15. Resolute Mining (ASX:) fell 5.91% or 0.03 points to close at 0.52 and Orora Ltd (ASX:) fell 4.51% or 0.09 points to close at 1.96.

Falling shares on the Sydney Stock Exchange outnumbered advancing shares by 708 to 443, while 474 closed unchanged.

Shares in Deterra Royalties Limited (ASX:) fell to a new 52-week low; falling 6.95% or 0.31 to 4.15. Shares in Orora Limited (ASX:) fell to a new 5-year low; falling 4.51% or 0.09 to 1.96.

The , which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P/ASX 200 index, returned 1.68% to 10.72.

Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.35% or 8.05 to trade at $2.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, Crude oil for July delivery fell 0.75% or 0.59 to $78.03 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for August delivery fell 0.60% or 0.50 to trade at $82.25 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.23% at 104.70, while AUD/JPY was up 0.48% at 104.70.

In turn, the dollar futures index rose 0.13% to 105.05.
