Investing.com – Australian shares were higher at the close on Tuesday, as shares led by gains in the , and , and sectors.
The index rose 0.34% at the close in Sydney.
The best performer of the session on the index came from shares in Zip Company Limited (ASX:), which gained 11.83% corresponding to 0.33 points, ending the session at $3.12. Meanwhile, shares in Premier Investments Ltd (ASX:) rose 9.91% or 3.06 points to end the day at 33.94, and shares in Premier Investments Ltd (ASX: mineral resources (ASX:), which advanced 7.15% or 2.47 points to end trading at 37.00.
The worst performers of the session were shares in ResMed Inc DRC (ASX:), which fell 2.97% or 1.16 points to trade at 37.91 at the close. Parenti Global Ltd (ASX:) fell 2.50% or 0.03 points to 1.17 and Seek Ltd (ASX:) fell 2.67% or 0.68 points to 24.76.
Falling shares outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange to 579 to 523, while 451 closed unchanged.
Zip Company Limited (ASX:) shares hit 52-week high; increased by 11.83% or 0.33 to 3.12. ResMed Inc DRC (ASX:) shares fall to 3-year high; Declined 2.97% or 1.16 to 37.91.
The index, which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P/ASX 200 index, retreated 4.45% to 11.87.
Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.36%, or 9.80, to $2,765.70 a troy ounce. In commodity trading, crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $67.39 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in January fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $70.99 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.24% at 0.66, while AUD/JPY slipped 0.55% to 100.36.
In turn, the dollar futures index rose 0.03% to 104.15.
