Investing.com – Australian shares were higher at the close on Monday, as shares led by gains in the , and , and .
The index rose 0.12% at the close in Sydney.
The best performer of the session on the index came from shares in Zip Company Limited (ASX:), which gained 0.10 points by 3.72% to trade at 2.79 at the close of trading. Meanwhile, Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:) added 3.71% or 0.25 points to end the day at 6.99 and ResMed Inc DRC (ASX:) added 3.55% or 1.34 points to end trading at 39.07.
The worst performing shares of the session were North Star Resources (ASX:), which fell 5.52% or 1.01 points, with shares trading at 17.28. Westgold Resources Limited St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) fell 4.86% or 0.16 points to 3.13 and St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) fell 4.21% or 0.02 points to 0.46.
Falling shares on the Sydney Stock Exchange outnumbered advancing ones by 614 to 503, while 466 closed unchanged.
ResMed Inc DRC (ASX:) shares hit 3-year high; It rose 3.55%, or 1.34, to 39.07.
The index, which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P/ASX 200 index, retreated 0.58% to 12.42.
Gold futures for December delivery fell 0.22%, or 5.95, to $2,748.65 a troy ounce. In other commodities, crude for delivery in December fell 4.67% or 3.35 to $68.43 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in January fell 4.46% or 3.37 to trade at $72.26 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.22% at 0.66, while AUD/JPY slipped 0.03% to 101.25.
In turn, the dollar futures index declined 0.28% to 104.42.
