Prime Video announces documentaries about athletes Wayne Rooney and Nicola Adams

Amazon Prime Video has announced that two special documentaries focusing on UK sports stars will hit the platform by 2022. productions are ROONEY, about football player Wayne Rooney, and The Lioness: The Story of Nicola Adams, about the British boxing champion.

The documentaries were announced at a sporting event in London, which featured a question-and-answer session with Wayne Rooney and Nicola Adams, as well as the productions’ directors. Both new content are part of Prime Video’s initiative to make more sports content available on the platform. In Brazil, apart from the premiere of the Brazilian Championship Games, documentaries such as it’s pele, About the King of Football, are part of the same program.

Both productions will feature interviews with people close to the athletes and the challenges the stars face until they reach the veteran status they currently hold in their respective sports.

The Lioness: The Story of Nicola Adams, will tell about the trajectory of the two-time boxing gold medalist at the Olympics and her fight against sexism, racism and homosexuality. The documentary will be directed by Helena Coen, and will include interviews with Adams’ girlfriend, Ella Begg, as well as several opponents of Champion’s trajectory.

Regarding the documentary, Nicola Adams issued the following statement:

“I want to share my boxing life trajectory with my fans, who have supported me every step of this journey and inspired me to keep going through the most difficult times of all these years. I hope that This documentary will help the youth to realize that no matter how many challenges life brings in your way, you can overcome them. Sometimes it may seem that the world is against you, but hard work, passion and perseverance With determination you can achieve your dreams.”

Documentary film ROONEY “British Oscars”, directed by BAFTA winner Math Smith, will feature the ups and downs of a football player’s career as well as the challenges Rooney faces in his personal life. The special will include interviews with David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Gary Neville and Sven-Göran Eriksson, as well as the family of the famous British player.

Regarding the documentary, Martin Bucklund, content manager for Amazon Prime Video UK, said the following:

The Lioness: The Story of Nicola Adams will debut on Prime Video on November 12, while ROONEY The platform is expected to be added to the catalog in the first months of 2022.
