Kentavius Calledwell-Pope re-signs three-year, ਕਰ 40 million deal with Los Angeles Lakers Shams Charnia of Athletics. The third year of the deal includes a partial guarantee. This is the fourth consecutive offense in which Caldwell-Pope has struck a deal with the Lakers. He originally joined the team after starting his career with the Detroit Pistons in 2017 and has been playing under a one-year deal ever since. Now, he’s got the long-term protection he’s been looking for since 2017, and he’s got it with the championship contender he’s been with for the last three seasons.
Caldwell-Pop initially had a 8. 8.4 million option for this season. He was expected to choose the option during the regular season that cap space would be league-wide. A strong playoff race, in which Caldwell-Pope became the third best player in a championship team, changed him. According to Charnia, Caldwell-Pope got a lot of interest around the league, but he and the Lakers were determined to make a deal.
It makes sense on both sides. The Lakers have already made their mid-level exception, there is no way to change Caldwell-Pope if he leaves. Caldwell-Pope, meanwhile, had to join a lottery team like New York or Atlanta to get the money elsewhere. The Lakers had full bird rights, however, so they could give him over the cap to stay.
Now most of their se fascia retouling is complete. With the signing of Montreal Harrell with mid-range exceptions, the Lakers turned a hard cap on the 13 8,138.9 million apron. They are now very close to that figure, and will likely drop Jasley McGee’s 4. 2.4 million salary to fill the space needed to fill the roster. At least the signings are yet to be made, but the defending champions have now made their big moves.
