In an effort to reduce traffic during peak hours, the government of India’s capital Delhi is planning to impose a congestion charge.

The scheme would involve charging drivers for using designated roads during peak hours. Two-wheelers and non-polluting vehicles, including electric, should be exempted.

This strategy is called “congestion pricing”, and in an effort to prevent traffic congestion and pollution, 13 main entry points are charged during rush hour from 8 am to 10 am and from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Will be launched on. ,

13 locations have been identified on the borders of the capital Delhi for the pilot phase.

The local government says the revenue from the fee can be used to improve public transport, reduce pollution and improve the quality of life.

Special Transport Commissioner Shahzad Alam told the country’s news website ET Auto that a new allocation of funds for transport management is underway and congestion pricing is one of the strategies under development.

Delhi can take the example of other cities that have implemented congestion charging, such as Singapore, London and Stockholm.

These cities use fees to manage traffic and reduce congestion.

Apart from the congestion charge, the Delhi Transport Department has recently launched a drive to seize diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 and 15 years with an aim to tackle air pollution in the national capital.
