The world of Games and eSports is in mourning. The seven-time world champion of Tetris, American Jonas Neubauer died at the age of 39 after a “sudden medical emergency”. The death occurred on January 4, but was reported on the player’s profile on Twitter only last Friday.

Jonas Neubauer won seven Tetris world titles within an eight-year window (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017). He picked up the trophy for the first time in the competition and was runner-up twice (2014 and 2018). Achieved the record for most titles (seven), finals (nine) and participation in the Tetris World Championship (ten).
