“Immediately after significantly personal reflection, band conversations, prayer and a lot of trustworthy conversations with some of our closest Black buddies and colleagues,” the state tunes group said they “determined to fall the term ‘Antebellum.'”
The trio explained how their band identify came to be. “As musicians, it reminded us of all the music born in the south that has motivated us… southern rock, blues, R&B, gospel and of course state,” they shared. “But we are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not choose into account the associations that weigh down this phrase referencing the period of historical past before the Civil War, which contains slavery.”
“Producing suffering was under no circumstances our hearts’ intention, but it isn’t going to alter the simple fact that certainly, it did just that,” they mentioned. “So now, we speak up and make modify. We hope you will dig in and be part of us.”
“There are many much more that will need to be taken,” they went on. “We want to do far better. We are fully commited to analyzing our particular person and collective impact and making the important modifications to practice anti-racism. We will continue to teach ourselves, have hard conversations and lookup the sections of our hearts that require pruning—to grow into superior individuals, greater neighbors.”
