This was the beginning of Brexit. And, for young German filmmaker Philipp Koch, it was the trigger to embark on an ambitious creative project.
As a convinced European citizen, Koch was so shocked by Brexit that, a few days later, he found himself writing a short excerpt about the end of Europe. More specifically, a post-apocalyptic landscape in which the kingdoms of ancient Europe were destroyed and now divided into various tribes. And while the concept may be a little too vague today, Koch acknowledged
We saw that we needed to bring out positivity and hope. We are not navigating a radioactive post-apocalypse, where there is danger in every corner. We are living in an exciting world where we all rise again. A new beginning for the continent, full of hope – symbolic, hence its new name: Europe, with an English accent. “
The series, created by Koch and written in partnership with Jan Berbuch and Benjamin Seiler, takes us to 2054, after a mysterious global disaster, where a war between tribes emerged from the wreckage of Europe.
