The defending champions of the competition and big favorites of the title, the Serbian will take on the winner of a duel between Chile’s Marcelo Tomas Barrios (209th) and South Africa’s Kevin Anderson (102nd) in the second round.
In his quest for his 20th Grand Slam trophy to match the mark of Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Swiss Roger Federer, Djokovic faced a 19-year-old opponent on the main court, supported by the audience in attendance.
Showing an aggressive style, Draper made only three unforced mistakes and served very well, while the Serb failed in the crucial moments, allowing the Brit to close the first set in 6/4.
In the next leg, Djokovic met again and showed why he leads the ATP rankings, dominating from the start to equalize the score of 6/1.
The Serb clearly took control of the game and no longer gave the young opponent an opportunity to turn the tables and start off on the right foot towards the six-time London Grand Slam title.
