MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, 20 October 2021 (AFP) – Cristiano Ronaldo scored a decisive last-minute goal as Manchester United beat Atlanta 3-2 in the third round of Group F of Liga Dos Champions on Wednesday.
Playing at Old Trafford, the English team saw the visitors go past the scoreboard with goals from Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic (in the 15th minute) and Turkish defender Merih Demiral (29).
Behind the scoreboard, the hosts went to half-time under mockery from the crowd, whose main target was Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solskje.
And the “Red Devils” response came in the second half, with striker Marcus Rashford (53) slowing down and defender Harry Maguire (75) leaving everything as is.
Cristiano Ronaldo emerged to drive local fans crazy just minutes before the end of the match.
After Shaw’s perfect cross in the middle of the Italian field, the Portuguese striker rose above the mark and went into the corner of the goal, making an English comeback.
With this result, Manchester United lead the group with 6 points, two more than second-placed Villarreal, who beat fourth-placed Swiss Lantern Young Boys (with 3 units) 4–1. 3rd place, with the same 4 points. Spaniards, but with a low goal margin.
In the next round of the Continental tournament, on 2 November (Tuesday), United will go on to face Atalanta in Italy, while Villarreal will host the Swiss team in Spain.
