Tourist arrivals to the United States increased by 5.2% in August compared to the same period in 2023. 5.75 million air travelers from abroad landed in the United States last month, reaching 91.6% of pre-pandemic levels.
Only Brazil sent nearly 133,500 travelers to the USA in AugustAn increase of 3.81% compared to those sent in the same month of 2023 (128.6 thousand passengers). With respect to 2019, when 158.5 thousand Brazilians or travelers from Brazil visited the United States in August, the decline is 15.7%.
The data comes from the US National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO), which also showed that arrivals of foreign visitors (excluding Canada and Mexico) totaled 3.59 million in August, reaching 88.5% of the pre-pandemic volume registered in August 2019, up from 85.6% registered in July this year.
Last month, the largest movements to/from the United States were: Canada (3.22 million), Mexico (3.15 million), the United Kingdom (2.17 million), Germany (1.16 million) and France (1.04 million).
International air passenger boardings (arrivals and departures) to/from the US totaled 25.1 million, an increase of 7.2% compared to August 2023, with boardings reaching 103.4% of pre-pandemic figures.
Tourists by region
Connections with Europe reached 8.44 million passengers, an increase of 8.8% compared to August 2023 and 2.2% compared to August 2019. South/Central America/Caribbean had 5.86 million passengers overall, an increase of 5.4% compared to August 2023 and 13.5% compared to before the pandemic.
Asia, in turn, received a total of 2.6 million passengers, an increase of 14.9% compared to August 2023, but a decline of 25.3% compared to August 2019.

New York/JFK (3.76 million), Los Angeles (2.2 million), Miami (2.16 million), Newark (1.56 million) and San Francisco (1.52 million) were the main gateways for visitors in August 2024.
The main entry points for North Americans in the month were: London/Heathrow (1.75 million), Toronto (1.17 million), Paris (914 thousand), Cancun (904 thousand) and Frankfurt (776 thousand tourists).
