For now, only Virgin Australia has ordered the 737 Max in Australia
Nearly two years after the ban, Australian authorities lifted the ban on flights with the Boeing 737 Max. The lawsuit came after Australia’s Civil Aviation Authority CASA accepted the requirements set by the United States Federal Civil Aviation Agency (FAA).
With the decision, Australia joins Japan as one of the countries accepting the return of 737 MAX operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Interestingly, neither airline has a model in its fleet in both countries, even though Virgin Australia has a firm order for 25 units. Nevertheless, prior to the ban, airlines such as Fiji Airways and Singapore Airlines operated the 737 MAX on flights to Australia.
New Zealand, which generally follows regulations closer to Australia, has not yet defined when it will lift the ban on flights with the 737 MAX. According to the country’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the agency is working jointly with regulators in Australia and Singapore to make possible the return of operations of the 737 Max family.
“CAA will not issue a general approval for the Boeing 737 Max to fly to New Zealand, but will work with any future operators on a case by case basis [que desejem voar para o país] To continue flight operations in New Zealand, ”the organization said.
So far, regulators in Australia, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Japan, United Kingdom, Europe and the United States have proceeded to return flights with the 737 MAX. The rest of the world’s countries are still working on the process, with some models not expected to do certification in the coming months due to the lack of regular flights.
