“The Teton County Forensic Department has been sent to the county’s national park to retrieve a body,” AFP’s local coroner Brent Blue said.
“Previously, human remains were found that matched the description of Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito,” FBI agent Charles Jones told a news conference. “I would like to express my deepest and deepest condolences to Gabby’s family,” he said.
US officials launched an extensive search to find the 22-year-old woman, who went missing on September 11 while traveling with her partner. The family said the last time her parents contacted her was when the two passengers were in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park area.
Gabby Petito quit her job in July to travel across the United States in a van with her boyfriend of 23 years, Brian Laundry. She documented the trip on Instagram.
More than two weeks ago, Laundry returned to North Port, Florida alone with her partner’s van. He was declared a “person of interest” by investigators but later disappeared.
Laundry’s parents have not seen her since Tuesday, according to North Port Police, who are now working on a “many missing” case.
