Australia and England played the first Test match in 1877.

To celebrate 150 years of Test cricket, Australia and England will compete in a one-off Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in March 2027.

These two teams played their first Test in 1877 and the Centenary Test in 1977, both of which were won by Australia by 45 runs.

Recently, Cricket Australia (CA) announced the allocation of hosting rights for the next seven years, confirming that the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will host the New Year’s Test and the Adelaide Oval will host the pre-Christmas Test, while the Boxing Day Test will continue to be played at the MCG.

Perth’s Optus Stadium has secured the right to host the first Test of the summer for the next three seasons.

England are scheduled to tour Down Under for a five-match Ashes series in 2025-26 and New Zealand will be the visitors for a four-match Test series in 2026-27. Australia are also set to host Bangladesh for two Tests. This means that with the additional anniversary test, there is a plethora of tests for the Australians in 2027.
