Shares ended the session higher, with the S&P/ASX 200 index advancing 0.21%. By Investing.com

Investing.com – Australian shares were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , , and sectors pushed shares higher.

The index rose 0.21% at the close in Sydney.

The session’s best performance on the index came from stocks PointsBet Holdings Limited (ASX:), which rose 14.00%, corresponding to 0.07 points, was trading at 0.57 at the close of trading. Meanwhile, shares of Appan Limited (ASX:) added 13.85%, or 0.16 points, ending the day at 1.32, and they Codon (ASX:), which gained 10.44% or 1.35 points to close operations at 14.28.

The worst performing stocks of the session were Megaport Limited (ASX:), which fell 20.78% or 2.45 points to close at 9.34, its shares down. Insignia Financial Ltd (ASX:) fell 15.70% or 0.46 points to close at 2.47 and Collins Foods Ltd (ASX:) fell 12.70% or 1.12 points to close at 7.70.

Emerging stocks on the Sydney Stock Exchange outnumbered negative stocks by 582 to 552, while 428 closed unchanged.

Shares in PointsBet Holdings Limited (ASX:) reached a new 52-week high; rising 14.00% or 0.07 to 0.57. Shares in Codan (ASX:) reached a new 52-week high; rising 10.44% or 1.35 to 14.28. Shares in Collins Foods Limited (ASX:) fell to a new 52-week low; falling 12.70% or 1.12 to 7.70.

The , which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P/ASX 200 index, retreated 1.59% to 11.92.

Gold futures for December delivery fell 0.04% or 0.95 to settle at $2,546.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, Crude oil for October delivery fell 0.28% or 0.20 to $71.73 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for October delivery fell 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $75.97 a barrel.

AUD/USD was 0.04% unchanged at 0.67, while AUD/JPY slipped 0.07% to 97.95.

In turn, the dollar futures index declined 0.13% to 101.04.
