13-year-old golden retriever Leela was rescued by a police officer in a sewer pipe after she went missing for two days.
This case happened this weekend in New York, USA. Leela was missing since Friday (24). Two days later, on Sunday (26), his owner, Rudy Führer, was walking through the same area with two other animals when he heard the plaintiff bark.
“I said, my God, this is Leila,” recalled the Führer when reporting the story to AFP. He then called the emergency service and asked for help in rescuing the animal.
Officer Jimmy Rasaphone had the only way of escape by crawling through a five-metre sewer pipe. Upon finding Leela, Rasaphone was able to get the leash in and out of hold.
“He bent down and literally disappeared into the hole with a leash,” said the dog’s owner. After a while, Leila and Rasaphone emerge drenched, but safe and sound.
In an interview with AFP, the Führer said he was grateful for the police’s compassion and initiative and added that Leila had recovered from the fear.
The case was also shared on the NYPD Facebook page.
