PARIS, January 17, 2022 (AFP) – Former French driver Alain Prost will no longer be the non-executive director of Formula 1 team Alpine for the 2022 season, a source close to the matter told AFP, confirming details released on the special Website Motorsport…
Prost, a four-time F1 world champion (1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993), served as the team ambassador/advisor for Renault’s return to F1 in 2016, before being appointed non-executive director in 2019.
The 66-year-old former Renault driver (1981–1983) had an annual contract with the organization, which was not renewed for the next season.
Alpine, named at the start of the 2021 season, is in a complete reorganization around its president Laurent Rossi for the team and Enstone (UK) for the chassis, based in Viry-Châtillon (France) for the ‘engine’ part.
Last week, Marcin Budkowski stepped down as executive director. Waiting for his successor, Rossi holds the position on an interim basis.
Budkowski’s departure could open doors for American Otmar Szafner, who has stepped down as Aston Martin’s managing director.
Alpine has retained its drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon for the 2022 season, which is set to start on March 20 in Bahrain for a record 23 Grand Prix calendar.
