A teenager has so far tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Adelaide on a Virgin Australia flight where a crew member was infected. The Daily Mail reported that the boy is now in a hotel and will be in isolation for the next 14 days. Health officials have said there is a “high level of concern” for all passengers on the six flights that flight attendants have traveled on.

The website said it had worked three days while being infected, prompting an immediate alert for interstate travelers. The crew member was at least on its flights between Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Newcastle between October 4 and 6.

“The crew on these flights were believed to be close contacts. Most live in Melbourne and the department will be contacted,” Victoria’s deputy secretary for COVID-19, Kate Mattson, said on Saturday. Health officials in many states are trying to contact all passengers on board the plane. “The passengers on these flights are being contacted by the relevant jurisdictions and we are in close contact with NSW and South Australia, working closely with them to reach the passengers concerned,” he said.
“Flight VA 219 will now be treated as a transmission location and SA Health is ensuring that quarantine arrangements for all passengers reflect this increased level of concern,” SA Health said on Sunday (10). The case was detected through Virgin Australia’s surveillance testing program. Everyone on the listed flights will have to be tested and isolate themselves.
