The Premier League, which organizes the English championship, on Wednesday released the table of games for the 2021-2022 season. Defending champions Manchester City will soon begin defending the title with a bigger challenge. They will face a home away derby against Tottenham in London for the opening round to be held on 14 and 15 August.
Their biggest rivals Manchester United, who finished second last season, will host Leeds United for the first time. The match will be played at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. Chelsea, the current winners of the European Champions League, will play at home against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge Stadium in London.
Liverpool, third-placed in the last edition of the Premier League, will make their home debut against Norwich, returning to the English elite after being champions of the Second Division. Another newly promoted, Brentford will be visited by Arsenal in the opening round.
With vaccination against the new coronavirus in an advanced stage in the United Kingdom and easing measures, the Premier League believes stadiums in the country will be freed up in the next football season to achieve their maximum capacity.
“We have been working since the start of the season with the ambition to complete stadiums, including the attendance of fans from visiting clubs,” the organization said in an official statement. The 2021-2022 season, with its 38 rounds, is scheduled to kick off on May 22, 2022.
